Brief History

The Knights of St. Andrew is a fraternal organization associated with the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. The organization was established in the late 19th century in the United States, and was originally known as the "Patriarchs Militant." In the early 20th century, the organization changed its name to the "Knights of St. Andrew," and became more closely associated with the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.

The Knights of St. Andrew is named after the patron saint of Scotland, Saint Andrew, and is made up of members who have achieved the 32nd degree of the Scottish Rite. Our organization's primary mission is to promote fellowship and brotherhood among members, support the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and its charitable activities, and preserve the traditions and history of the Scottish Rite.

The Knights of St. Andrew participate in a range of activities, including serving as honor guards for Scottish Rite events, assisting with degree ceremonies, and engaging in community service and outreach activities. Our organization is governed by a Supreme Council, which oversees the activities of local chapters throughout the United States and around the world.

The Knights of St. Andrew  are identified by their sometimes flamboyant uniform and regalia; often entering special events accompanied by bagpipes and drums, becoming the elite unit of all Scottish Rite Masons. Uniforms and regalia are set forth in the by-laws of the organization and by vote of the members. They are easily recognized by their Glengarry hats and tartan ties.

“There are no strangers in Freemasonry, only friends you’ve yet to meet.”
