Sarah Katherine Mount from San Lorenzo Valley (SLV) High School in Felton, CA is the recipient of this year’s San Jose Scottish Rite Foundation Scholarship for the 2010-2011 academic year.  Sarah received her scholarship certificate from Brother Richard Fisher, 32 Degree, Knight Commander of the Court of Honor and the Scholarship Committee Chairman during the Senior Honors Night held on May 24, 2010 at SLVHS. The scholarship award is in the amount of $2,500.00 and is renewable for three additional years if the academic requirements established by the foundation are met.
In addition to our scholarship, Sarah received 17 other awards in recognition of her accomplishments in the classroom, in athletics, her community and in many other extracurricular activities. Among her awards she was named the Female Scholar Athlete of the Year, a National Merit Scholarship winner, a member of the class Top Thirteen, received The Outstanding Senior Award from the school principal and several academic department awards. Sarah was truly one of the two or three seniors who were standouts among the best of the best in the SLV Class of 2010.
Sarah will be attending the University of California at Berkeley in Fall 2010. She is undecided as to her major at this time. Our plan is to have Sarah and her parents as our guests at the September Stated Meeting and at that time she has agreed to tell us more about herself and her future goals. We can all be proud of Sarah and our contribution to her scholastic endeavors.
It was Richard’s honor also to present a scholarship award to Kristin Hayes on behalf of the California Scottish Rite Foundation. The scholarship is in the amount of $2,000.00, renewable for three additional years. Kristen also received numerous other awards during the evening’s ceremonies for her scholastic achievements including Top Thirteen, a National Merit Scholarship award and several department honors.  This Fall, Kristin will be attend Azusa Pacific University in Southern California.  Kristen has been invited to attend one of our Stated Meeting dinners so we can all get to know her and wish her our very best on behalf of all California Scottish Rite Masons.  The California Scottish Rite Foundation can be justly proud of Kristin as she was another standout among the seniors honored that night.
Richard and Chuck Cowden, 32⁰, Knight Commanders of the Court of Honor, met with the families and friends of Sarah and Kristen and congratulated them on their contributions to the success of these two outstanding young ladies. The families were truly appreciative of our support and asked that their thanks be passed on to all our members.
