From the Wise Master (January, 2016)

Remembrances:—I remember when I was a child growing up back in Boston and my folks used to take us to “summer” in either New Hampshire or Maine. On the way we would stop at the Webber Duck Farm or the Benson’s Animal Farm and see the animals on exhibit. And I have always remembered that youthful experience.
Fast forward to December 2015:—and I had it on my calendar to be present at the Installation of Officers at Los Gatos. I wanted to make sure that I attended all the S.C.
Valley Lodge Installations this season. But also on the calendar was the notation of the San Jose Scottish Rite Clinic Christmas party for the little children as well as their parents. Well I couldn’t do both? Could I? While I finished shaving and looking into the mirror he said “Sure you could, you just have to push the envelope a little harder”.
So there I was—the Clinic party was in full swing. Not as many though as before, but I was glad I made it. A decorated lit-up Christmas tree, lots of kids enjoying the large inflated house with the sliders and bouncers. Others were waiting in line for a chance to sit on Santa’s lap and mention what they would like him to bring them for Christmas. And there was music, and a wonderful spread of food on the serving tables. Also my newfound friends from Monterey said to me “Have you seen the animals?”— . . . “What animals?”— . . . “Well they’re outside in the gated area.” And sure enough, there they were. Lots of animals.
The little children were all lined up waiting their turn to get inside and see, and even pet the wonderful collection of smaller livestock.
There were many Sheep, Alpacas, Goats, Chickens, Ducks, Little Piglets, Squirrels, and Bunny Rabbits. You could tell at once the great experience the kids were having to pet and even hold some of the smaller animals. They too would also remember that day at San Jose Scottish Rite for the rest of their lives. Yes, it was a good day.
As I left to continue my journey I thought to myself
“This was a good year—the Chapter was at refreshment and we could depart in peace”.
