From the Wise Master (April, 2015)

Last month’s Stated Meeting was hosted by Chapter Rose Croix, with myself as Wise Master, and I must say this was my first time at the helm in 2015 and I still need a bit more practice. But - we got through it with a little help from my friends. It’s one thing to know the words—as well as the proper time to use the gavel—and then call on the other officers in the Rose Croix line in correct order. Continual practice will overcome my brief pauses without hesitation.
The special “Maundy-Thursday” dinner and short relevant historical talk  will be held on the first Thursday, April 2nd at the usual time in our San Jose  Scottish Rite Lodge.  In the United States Maundy-Thursday is a religious observance. This day, also known as Holy Thursday, falls on the Thursday before Good Friday. It commemorates Jesus Christ’s last supper and the initiation of the Eucharist, which is observed in many Christian churches.
Maundy-Thursday is given as more than an ordinary observance by Scottish Rite. The Chapter of Rose Croix in the Eighteenth Degree provides for the extinguishing of lights until Easter Sunday, at which time the Chapter will be reassembled. We also celebrate the two world vernal equinoxes near these times in memory of  Freemasonry’s two Patron Saints—St. John the Baptist in the spring—and St. John the Evangelist in the fall.
I also need to mention that the wine tasting event that Chapter Rose Croix had scheduled for Saturday, April 18th is postponed until later in the year. We have been pre-empted by our San Jose Scottish Rite opening of our Spring Reunion. The Lodge of Perfection will hold the conferring of the 4th thru the 14th Degrees on April 18th. Wine tasting will have to wait.
