Brethren, Ladies and Friends,

Well summer is upon us and the San Jose Scottish Rite Bodies are not taking a vacation.
This month is a Night of Instruction followed by a festive Agape dinner.  There is still time to make reservations, if you haven't.  Brother Cowden is doing an excellent job planning these evenings.  If you have not attended on, give June 23 a try.  Dinner is fantastic, the presentation is stimulating, the Q&As during dinner are interesting and the fellowship is priceless.
July's stated meeting will feature a BBQ dinner.  This year it will be cooked for us.  Dress, as I sadly found out one year, is casual.
May 28 Brother Karem Kapkin and I had the honor, on behalf of the San Jose Scottish Rite Foundation, to attend Scotts Valley High School's Senior Awards Ceremony and present Samantha Steele as our newest scholarship reciepient.  A look at the evening's program quickly confirmed Samantha had the qualities our scholarship selection committee saw in her.  Samantha received 14 of 65 honors and awards presented that night but keep in mind over 20 of those were scholarships for students attending specific colleges.
Finally a word about someone I have had the honor and pleasure to work with over the years both in the Lodge of Perfection and Chapter Rose Croix.  Mary Lou Johnson is retiring.  Over the years she has helped me navigate around the Scottish Rite.  It is with joy I hear you are setting out on that new adventure of retirement.  While you will be  missed, I wish you happiness in your new "career".
