Greetings from the East,

My year as Venerable Master is fast ending.  I congratulate the newly elected and appointed officers for the San Jose Scottish Rite Bodies for 2010 who will be installed January 26, 2010.
In 2006, the Sovereign Grand Commander challenged the Scottish Rite Valleys to emphasize or institute programs in several areas.  This past year has seen those programs grow in our Valley especially those in the areas of education and member involvement.
There are more-liners at meetings and the Reunions. Our newer members are becoming involved in the various aspects of degree presentation and the Knights of St. Andrew.  Opportunities have increased for Masonic education and more brethren have and are taking the Master Craftsman program Brother Cowden coordinated an excellent series of Nights of Instruction and Festive Agape Banquets in 2009 and more will be held in 2010.
There will be one very unique event coming up Brethren and their families should make every effort to attend.  That will be the conferral of the Knight Commander Court of Honor on Brother Cowden and four others from other Valleys.  The conferral of this honor is made but once every two years and at some distance from San Jose.  Circumstances have allowed a special presentation of the Honor in San Jose on March 28th in the afternoon.  Stay tuned and join us on that day for this special conferral.
2010 will present a challenge to our Valley in the support of our Language Disorder Clinic.  Our Valley has its own foundation and support for it must be made directly to it or specifically designated when making a contribution to the California Scottish Rite Foundation.
I appreciate the privilege to have served this past year.
