The San Jose Scottish Rite Childhood Language Center is a free service made possible by donations from members of the San Jose Scottish Rite Bodies to the San Jose Scottish Rite Foundation.  The Foundation receives no state or federal funding. We provide speech and  language therapies to children ages three though eighteen who demonstrate a language disorder.  We are separate and apart from the public school system, and in fact, we have been made aware that the local school systems are no longer providing the service and are instead referring the children needing treatment to outside sources.  We here at Scottish Rite apparently lead their referral list.
In the private sector, the services we provide would cost many thousands of dollars.  In fact, in the San Jose area, the fee for private speech and language assessment ranges from $350 to $1,200 depending on the age of the child and the situation.  Often, there is a separate fee for report writing of $300 or more.  Therapy costs range from $120 to $175 per hour.  We provide both assessments and therapy, free from any cost whatsoever.
The financial woes in our economy have impacted the finances of our clinic, and donations are greatly needed.  In fact, our year-to-date donations to the clinic this year are only 45% of previous years.  I repeat, we need your help.  Please do what you can to help.
Remember also that we support a scholarship program and the library/museum although they require substantially smaller amounts of support.
We need your help!
