From the Secretaries Table (February, 2008)

I am encouraged by the comments by many of you regarding the increased sociable environment here at San Jose Scottish Rite. It is very pleasant to see such an improvement in our attendance at our meetings and events. When we needed to set four additional tables for the refreshments after the Installation of Officers, it was a very pleasant task indeed.
One of my duties however, is not so pleasant and that is to be in the position of reminding those of you who have not yet paid your dues, to please do so as soon as you can. I should also remind you that Masonry is an organization that has obligated itself to the welfare of each and every Brother. If you can not afford to pay your dues because of financial pressures, please contact me privately and we will discuss a course of action. Our budgets are based primarily on our dues and fees, but our obligation is to each other.
There remains some old business (or rather, previous requests) on my table. We are planning to improve an area outside the building to accommodate a garden-style setting for small outdoor events and we would like some help in the design process. If you have that experience, or can assist by making a referral of a professional with whom you have had a positive relationship, please contact me. In addition, we are exploring the possibility of changing the entrance to the building and creating a driveway for the lower level. If you have any experience with civil engineering or any discipline related thereto, please contact me.
Lastly, if you have any comments about the new “Rite Word” or wish to provide an article for publication, send it to me by e-mail at rdrowan @
