There has been so much happening at Scottish Rite, that I am devoting this message to keeping you current on our activities.

First and foremost, I must say how pleasant it has been, to be working with such willing and talented people. Many of the ideas conceived for the benefit and progress of the organization come from the ranks and personnel, and when a proposal is made, discussed, and decided upon, there is always someone ready and willing to step up and work with the idea to make it a success.  Bob Rowan, Dan Brothers, Mary Lou Johnson and Jack Kempf are always hard at work to help make things happen, but people like Grace Stevens, Bill Roberts, Hal Leister, Roger Bibb, Greg LaFavor, Royce Ford, Maury Dunbar, Larry Fagan, Charlie Cowden, and dozens of others are also working diligently to help.

Ill. Leo Mark’s reception, October 20, is paramount on our coming calendar.  If you haven’t made your reservation, please do so. We are going to have a great event, and tickets are expected to go fast.

Our Fall Reunion is scheduled for November 16 and 17, and is being planned in an altered format that I think the members will enjoy. It places more emphasis on the achievement and importance of membership, and recognizes both the candidates and the cast members. It will include a banquet at the close of the second day where we can all assemble and enjoy the fruits of our labors. Please plan to attend.

We recently sent out a “Member Profile” for all members to complete and return. This form is important to the staff, not only for reaching members, but in searching for members with special talents and qualifications. We will also use these forms in the future when we do evaluations for KCCH and 33° and it will make my life a lot easier when I try to justify my recommendations with Supreme Council. Please get your profile forms back to Mary Lou, if you have not already done so.

The Foundation has retained a new clinician, partly to fill a vacancy that will occur soon when Michelle Crawford takes maternity leave, and then, when she returns, we will be able to handle an increased load. We now have forty children in treatment, and thirty more in the preparation process.

Thanks to the efforts of several brothers we are networking the computers in the office, and are automating the system of rental reservations. We need to do more work on our web site, both for members and for people looking for a place to hold a reception. Most of our business comes to us by word of mouth, and though we are able to keep our rental activity reasonably profitable, we see the potential of enhancing our business and improving the bottom line. Anyone with web site experience should check with our General Secretary, Bob Rowan, and lend a hand.

Speaking of business, during my recent visit to Washington DC, I had a chance to spend some time with Ill. Jim Cole, SGIG of Virginia and an authority on formation and organization of Masonic and Scottish Rite bodies. It appears we are on the right course in restructuring our Valley/Foundation relationship so that we will be able to do business in the future without encountering any problems with the legal authorities and also giving the Lodge a source of income to function in a more user-friendly manner.

Again, thanks for your help. Come and join our Tuesday AM “Problem Solving Session” and see how quickly we can put you to work.
