A Message from the Outgoing Chief Knight (February, 2014)

As the outgoing Chief Knight I find our ranks to be well, but there is always room to grow.  The Knights of Saint Andrew is a Black Hat organization in all Valleys. Our purpose is service to the Scottish Rite community and to assist in the prop management for degrees where needed.  Our members are encouraged to participate in at least one degree.
All black hats are entitled and encouraged to inform the KSA that they wish to participate in our activities, and if they do, we insist that they do join us. Our KSA Stated Meeting is on the first Tuesday of every month.  We have several events every year where we do officiate at ceremonies, such as doing crossed swords and escort.  We also like to officially Knight those who were not exemplars in the degree, and we have plans to do at least two of those per year.  The new Chief Knight has mentioned to me that he plans to do Knighting and Elevation at the KSA stated meeting in March.
The KSA is separate from the 29th degree.  Members of the degree team do not have to be KSA and may be red or white hats as well.  The 29th degree entitles all who go through it the title: Knight of Saint Andrew.  Those who are active KSA receive an elevation in title: Knight of the First Order (a really nice gold bordered patent goes with this).  This is a new ceremony for us and it is not a degree.  The new Chief Knight and I will work to make these ceremonies public where all are invited.
