HISTORY / NEWS & EVENTS

The San Jose Scottish Rite is interested in having prime intellectual and historical presentations for its members.  Should you be interested in giving such an event, please call the office @ (408) 978-7483 and ask for the Executive Director Dalton A. Noland.  Such events will be contingent on the number of people attending.

Every second Tuesday of the month there is an excellent dinner at 6:30 p.m. The dinner is followed by entertainment and the Stated Meeting's transaction of business...don't forget our noon luncheon held every Friday after the above Stated Meeting.  It has turned into one of the most interesting periods of fellowship and also provides an "excellent lunch".  This lunch is for "members only" and is "stag."   Don't forget to bring a few good jokes, and stories with you! All this for only $8.00.

Normally the only exception to this is the month of October.
Because of Annual Communications of the Grand Lodge of F.& A.M. of California, the Stated Meeting of October is normally held on the third (3rd) Tuesday of the month, as per our Bylaws.  The luncheon during the year 2002, will be Friday, October 11, after the Stated Meeting at noon. The Annual Communications in the year 2002 will not interfer with the San Jose Scottish Rite Stated Meeting, therefore the Stated Meeting for this year will be held on the second Tuesday, October 8, 2002 with dinner starting at 6:30 P.M.

HISTORY

The History of the San Jose Scottish Rite dates from May 1883 at the old Auzerais Hotel.

On November 26, 1904 a meeting was held at the old Masonic Hall (Rutherford Hall) at the Southwest corner of 2nd and San Fernando Streets, and on March 10, 1908, the initial step was taken toward the purchase of properly with work beginning on the new Center April 1909.

Having outgrown their Center they bought a lot at the corner of 3rd and St. James Streets in San Jose, opposite what is still St. James Park. The doors to the new Center at 2455 Masonic Drive were opened in 1984.

The new San Jose Scottish Rite Center is now the supporting entity for a Library and Museum as well as the San Jose Scottish Rite Childhood Language and Learning Disorders Clinic.  It is here that the members of the San Jose Scottish Rite Bodies apply their Masonic Craft through their contributions of volunteer time and financial funds so that their vision "INVESTING IN CHILDREN" may be attained within the community.

Today, the San Jose Scottish Rite Childhood Language and Learning Disorders Clinic stands as a marvelous monument to the depth of character and commitment that epitomizes what was once a dream and now, after fourteen active years, a reality.

Today there are over 180 Clinics throughout the United States.
Dreams can come true!
