January 2012 Clinic Director's Message

In December the San Jose Scottish Rite Children’s Language Clinic held an exceptionally successful holiday party with more than 135 children and parents in attendance.  Everyone had a wonderful time enjoying various activities, including a “jumping” house, clown, face painting, arts and crafts and, of course, a special visit by
Santa who gave a present to each child.
Thanks to Angela Athens and her crew for doing such a wonderful job in putting the party together.  Special thanks also to our clinicians, Rachel, Angela Stephan and Jenna for coming to help and spend time with the children and their parents.  To quote one of several notes I received, “Thank you so much for the wonderful Christmas party…  My girls had a wonderful time and the pictures with Santa Claus are just precious.”
During the month of November, we completed 236 treatment hours and five (5) screenings.  Two children were discharged from services, one child was added to the caseload, and three children’s therapy was increased from once to twice per week.  We are currently assisting 52 children with speech and language services and have 108 children on the waiting list.
If you would like to assist our clinic by making a financial donation, please contact the Scottish Rite office or me.  If you would prefer to donate therapy materials or toys, I would be happy to provide you with the list of our current needs.

Thanks to each of you for your help and support,
Durward C. Ayre, 32° KCCH
Clinic Director
